Clifftop Cooks 8-5-05

9" x 12". Fountain pen and sepia ink in ecru spiral-bound sketchbook.
This sketch shows a scene from the great old-time music gathering
held at Clifftop, W.Va., every August. We stayed at the campsite
of friends who brought a very organized kitchen setup. The drawing
shows the hostess, Hilarie, preparing a meal with the participation of
four little camp girls and the mother of three of the helpers. As always, I wish I had sketched more.

Model 7-22-08, One

8" x 11". Fountain pen and sepia ink
on Strathmore charcoal paper.
The model's pose, although simple,
had a nice, subtle shift of weight
onto one foot.

Model 7-22-08, Two

12" x 9". Fountain pen and sepia ink
on Strathmore charcoal paper.
The model is one of our favorites
at the session and likes to bring
an unusual assortment of accessories
for the costumed poses.

An old butternut tree on the farm belonging to my sister and her husband
on Big Wheeling Creek in West Virginia. Sketch done in August of '04.
